About the event

Authors and counsellor Darby Strickland will be joining us on Thursday, May 28th, to address the topic "Trauma as Exile: Helping Sufferers Find Home in Christ". Come and listen, enjoy a drink from Café 1517, and browse Strickland's books on display and in-store. There will be a question-and-answer session as time allows.


In partnership with P&R Publishing, Darby's two major published works, Is It Abuse? and When It's Trauma, will be available for special event pricing of $16 each (reg. $24). Her three children's books - Something Sad Happened, Something Scary Happened, and A Big Change Happened - will also be offered at special pricing of $16 each.

About the Author


Darby Strickland is a faculty member and counselor at CCEF, where she has served since 2003. She has a Master of Divinity with a counseling emphasis from Westminster Theological Seminary. Darby brings particular passion and expertise in helping the vulnerable and oppressed, especially women in abusive marriages. She has contributed to Church Cares and the PCA Domestic Abuse & Sex Assault church training materials. She has counselled in a missionary church setting and has also held leadership roles in women’s ministry. She is the author of When It's Trauma (P&R Publishing, 2025), Is It Abuse? (P&R Publishing, 2020), as well as three children's titles. In addition, she has written a handful of minibooks and has contributed to several other publications.


Note: This event is pay-what-you-can.


Donations will be used to cover the costs of the event, and any remainder will be donated to the charitable ministries of Reformed Book Services. Receipts will be issued for donations more than $10 over the fair market value ($20 per ticket).
